What is the lighting angle and why is it important?

Engineer and professional in a warehouse analyzing the best lighting angle

Lighting angleis the angle formed between the light source and the surface being illuminated. It is very important that a lighting system is well designed and structured, to prevent the environment from suffering from poor lighting or glare.

The lighting angle has a major impact on the appearance and functionality of lighting, as well as the comfort level of a company's employees.

A poorly lit warehouse, in addition to compromising employee productivity, can cause psychological stress and work accidents. Continue reading and find out how important the lighting angle is for the lighting design of a warehouse!

What is a lighting angle

An illumination angle, also called opening angle,is the angle formed between the direction of the light source and the illuminated surface. It is important for determining how light falls on a surface, influencing its appearance, including brightness, shadows and textures.

It is an important parameter in lighting design, as theangle of incidence of light can influence the appearance, energy efficiency and functionality of lighting.

An example of application is in the case of a corridor 15 meters high and 5 meters wide. The professional will need to design the lighting so that the entire area is illuminated in the same way, preferably using apunctual dome.

To avoid unnecessary expenditure on lamps and energy, the designer will simulate the best lighting angle according to the geometry of the location.

How important is the lighting angle for the design of a warehouse?

The lighting angle is important for a warehouse design for several reasons. If it is sized appropriately, it will direct the light to where it is really needed, avoiding waste and increasing visual comfort.

To calculate the lighting angle in places such as warehouses, it is necessary to pay attention to issues such as the size of the place and the activity that will be carried out.

Furthermore, the lighting angleimproves visualization of the environment, allows employees to move safely and perform tasksefficiently, preventing possible workplace accidents.

Finally, the lighting angle can have an impact on the visual appearance of the house, affecting theperception of space and architectural design. Furthermore, it can influence the quantity and quality of natural light that enters the warehouse.

It is important to carefully consider thelighting angle during shed design.

How to calculate the lighting angle

Calculating the lighting angledepends on the direction of the light source and the location of the surface to be illuminated.

In general, the calculation is carried outdividing the square meter of space by the amount of luminous flux from the lamp.If the illumination angle is smaller, the light beam will also be smaller, and if it is larger, vice versa.

In commercial sectors, it is more common for the angle to be 45 degrees, to attract consumers' attention to a certain product. In industrial sectors, the angle is calculated according to the needs of each sector, varying between 120 and 160 degrees.

What are the main lighting angles used?

There are several lighting angles that can be used, depending on the objective and the type of environment or object being illuminated. Some of the main lighting angles used are listed below. Check it out!

0 degree

Direct lighting is obtained when thelight source is positioned perpendicular to the surface, creating an illumination angle of 0 degrees. This lighting is often used tohighlight textures and create strong shadows.

30 degrees

A lighting angle of 30 degrees is often used for general lighting, highlighting most areas without creating too dark shadows.

45 degrees

A 45 degree lighting angle is commonly used toilluminate walls and works of art. It creates softer shadows than direct lighting, but still highlights textures.

60 degrees

A 60 degree lighting angle is often used toaccent lighting, as instore windows and art displays. It creates softer shadows than 45-degree lighting and brings out colors more effectively.

90 degrees

Top-down lighting is achieved when the light source is positioned perpendicular to the surface, creating a 90-degree lighting angle. This type of lighting is used tohighlight objects and create a dramatic look, but can create darker shadows.

120 degrees

The light is emitted at a wide angle, which makes it suitable forilluminate large areas, such as large rooms or outdoor spaces. The 120-degree lighting angle is commonly found in LED lamps and ceiling or wall lights.

These are just a few examples of common lighting angles. The exact angle used may vary depending on the specific application and the designer's preferences.

Why rely on a specialized company?

Counting on a company specialized in lighting offers numerous benefits. Check out the main ones below.

  • Companies specializing in lighting generally have a team of trained and experienced professionals with in-depth knowledge of lighting principles and best design practices. They can helpIdentify specific project lighting needs and provide customized solutions, which meet customer needs.
  • These companies can offerinnovative and energy-efficient lighting solutions, which can reduce operational and environmental costs.
  • A company specializing in lighting can carry out the entire process, from design to installation — which cansave time and minimize the possibility of errors. Additionally, she will have access to reliable sources of lighting materials, so she can purchase these items at more affordable prices than if purchased individually.
  • Companies like Grupo MB carry outcleaning and conservation of Domus and Lanternins, which help to extend the durability of your property and reduce corrective maintenance costs.

Inadequate lighting in environments such asshedsIt can cause visual discomfort, eye fatigue and compromise employee safety.Having a company specialized in technical issues involving warehouse lighting is essential.to ensure that the lighting in an environment is effective and meets the user's needs, providing not only aesthetics and safety, but also visual comfort.
